MIRAVAL RESORT & SPA NAMES JUSTIN MACY EXECUTIVE CHEF

TUCSON, AZ (September 24, 2012)—Miraval, the award-winning destination resort and spa, is pleased to announce that Justin Macy has been named executive chef. In his new role, Chef Macy will be responsible for all culinary offerings at Miraval, including sourcing the highest quality, local and organic ingredients for the property’s outlets. Previously, Chef Macy served as the executive sous-chef at Miraval.

An Arizona native, Chef Macy first came to Miraval in 1999 with his mother, who worked as a chef in the Miraval kitchen. At 17 years old, he began his culinary career at Miraval as a café attendant. Shortly thereafter, he was promoted to the kitchen where he cultivated his culinary talent, employing his artistic approach to creating healthy, delicious and beautiful dishes.

“We are thrilled to name Justin the executive chef of Miraval; it’s a well-deserved promotion following years of hard work and dedication," said Michael Tompkins, chief executive officer of Miraval Resort & Spa. “Justin has played a major role in the development of Miraval’s culinary vision, and there is no one better suited for the position.”

A culinary innovator, Chef Macy’s cuisine reflects Miraval’s mindful eating philosophy, transforming traditionally high-calorie dishes into vibrant meals with sensible calorie counts and complex flavor profiles. Together, Miraval and Chef Macy are dedicated to helping guests live and feel better through the food they put into their bodies and how they experience it.

“For the past 13 years I have had the opportunity to watch and learn from innovative culinary experts who have helped revolutionize spa cuisine,” said Justin Macy, executive chef at Miraval Resort & Spa. “I am honored that Miraval has chosen me to lead efforts in the kitchen as executive chef and am excited to continue to grow our ever evolving culinary and educational offerings.”

During his time at Miraval, Chef Macy has appeared on several national television shows including Oprah and The Millionaire Matchmaker. He developed Miraval’s “Evening with the Chef” series, as well as the In-Villa Culinary program, which caters to private owners, celebrities and high profile guests. In addition to his culinary duties, Chef Macy is a contributing author to Miraval’s first ever cookbook, Mindful Eating, which features over 200 original recipe favorites. Additionally, Chef Macy is co-author of Miraval’s second cookbook, Sweet & Savory (Hay House 2013), with his wife Kim Macy, who is the pastry chef at Miraval.

Chef Macy resides in Tucson, AZ with his family.
