Entries for month: February 2013

Although we continue to offer signature programs and services to our guests such as The Miraval Equine Experience (which has been around for 17 years), we continue to innovate and introduce new programs and services every month.

February is a special month because it marks the launch of our new culinary clinics. These new clinics were developed by Executive Chef Justin Macy and our Pastry Chef (also his wife!) Kim. We wanted to highlight some of our other new offerings that debut this month. Hope you enjoy!

Couple

Love is being present.

That is how Thich Nhat Hanh, a Vietnamese Buddhist monk and writer on mindfulness, defines love. A simple yet powerful sentiment.

The way to connect to those you love is by being present – with the other person as well as yourself. Being present means fully engaging in what is being shared between you in that moment – truly paying attention to the thoughts, feelings, and actions you are sharing now. This may sound obvious and straightforward, and it is. However, think about how you and your beloved interact during the course of a typical day. How much are you truly present with each other? How often is your communication “on the fly” or happening while “multitasking”? How often, while listening to the other speak, are you interpreting what they are saying into what you think they really mean? And then, when you respond, you are responding to what you’ve decided they meant instead of what they said?

Glen Griffith, Founder of the Miraval Golf Program, played in the 2013 PGA Phoenix Open last week.

Here's a video of Glen from the tournament:

Some Stats:

Glen finished with scores of 72 and 71 - stroke average of 71.5. He birdied 7 out of 36 holes played (19%). We'd like to brag about Glen and share that he finished ahead of one former US Open Champion, one former PGA Championship winner, and 3 regular season PGA Tour winners. Go Glen!

Glen's putting average was 1.636 which was .11 strokes below the PGA Tour average of 1.74 strokes per hole. He ranked 1st for the event in putts made from 15-25 foot range; and, he also ranked first in approach shots from 175-200 yards with an average distance to the pin of 17' 11".

We're so proud of him!
